The Creekside Shotokan Karate Dojo is lead by Joel Nitikman. Joel has practiced karate for over 25 years. For many years he led the dojo at the University of BC until starting the Creekside Dojo in 2010. Joel was awarded his yodan (4th degree black belt) by Mr. Ohshima in 2002.
Besides leading the UBC dojo, Joel has competed in and outside of Canada, both individually and as part of the Canada Shotokan Team. He has participated in tournaments in Israel and Spain, and at the North American championships (Nisei Week) in Los Angeles. He has also acted a referee at local and international tournaments and as a coach for various teams.
Joel is a lawyer for a national law firm and works in downtown Vancouver. He lives with his wife and son in Burnaby, BC.
